Last year, the Getty team began to notice a growing art history influence among image-makers and creatives who reference classical art in their work. Years ago, I coined the term "Meta Renaissance" to describe some of the work...
If you're in college or planning on going, you may be considering taking a semester or two to study abroad in a different country. Studying abroad is an exciting opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the world around you and the vast number of different cultures in it. You'll try new things, be confronted by new challenges, and meet new and wonderful people!
When I learned about the "27 Club," I think I was 25. I learned about "White Lighters" when I was 26. And when I was 27, for entirely selfish reasons, I thought I was going to die. To die at 27 would mean I was at my Peak, that I had "made it," that I was "a Star"! Who cared about the reality of things? A death at 27 would propel me into fame and cement me in history. But the reality was that I was at a very low point in my artistic career and my life....
As I mentioned in my earlier post, this painting combines the imagery from several randomly drawn tarot cards from the Thoth tarot deck to create a new visual representation, or "answer". In this case it was The Hanged Man, Queen of Wands, and 2 of Disks: Change, among some other cards from various decks... Continue Reading →
An essential part of making connections is leaving those connections with something to remember you by. These can be many things: a joke, an outfit, or something they can hold, such as a card or sticker, and whatever it is, you want it to be good. Here's why I recommend MOO for business cards:
I've been trying out various print-on-demand services to sell my art through, and I've gotten the chance to try out a few different popular services. I recently wrote a blog post about which of these platforms are best for artists, in my opinion. So I'll be approaching this review from not only a buyer's standpoint,... Continue Reading →

I'm all ready to go back to school, with my backpack and pillows! Just kidding. I don't go to school anymore. But I did take a lot of naps. And I did like to be comfortable and stylish. So I'd search out cool artists I wanted to support and buy their stuff. Well, it just... Continue Reading →
It's been a long, unusual road for me in the five years of my post-college artistic career. I still hate graphic design, and my day job has nothing to do with it (office work in a theater), but I do still use Photoshop, Illustrator, and my design skills regularly in my artistic work, even though my focus is on illustration and hand-painted masks. In my quest to make my art available for people to purchase, I have been exploring various Print-on-Demand/Drop Shipping services to offer my artwork not just as prints, but on mugs, shirts, and more. This format doesn't require you to store or pay for inventory, which can help keep startup costs down, and allows you to test the popularity of a wide range of products, and easily scale up as your designs become more popular. They also take care of payment processing and hosting in most cases. One of the best print on demand services I have tried is Printful, which integrates with Etsy, BigCartel, Shopify, Amazon, and more.
